During his lifetime, his spirit of adventure and willingness to take risks led him to live and work in many places before finally settling in Washington, where he nurtured the deep love of the ocean that he had obtained while in the Navy. A painter by trade, he also served in both the Army and the Navy, where his travels took him to Japan, Hong Kong and Korea and during which he served on an aircraft carrier in the Korean War. He also worked in the boom days of the oil fields of Wyoming and Montana and in copper mining in Utah. His favorite job, however, was managing remote camps all over the western United States. All of these journeys allowed him to pursue his life's passion, which was his love of the greatoutdoors. His greatest gift to his wife, his four sons and his daughter was to instill this love of nature and the sense of freedom to fully explore and enjoy it. His fearlessness in making life-changing decisions instilled in his children the same fearlessness in meeting life's challenges head on. He has embarked on his final great adventure leaving behind his wife, 5 children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is our beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather and we miss him immensely.

As this gathering is a celebration, please do not feel obligated to wear black.
